Welcome to a Hemp Tailor factory in Northern China. You could be forgiven for thinking that you were on the campus of a high tech company in Silicon Valley.

This factory is thousands of kilometers from what you would expect when you hear the words “chinese factory.” Literally. That phrase conjures up images of creaking buildings, unsafe conditions that would rival anything Charles Dickens described in 1800’s industrial England. But those images are misplaced and out of date.

As China’s rise has lifted hundreds of millions of people out of poverty and created the fastest growing middle class in history, the working conditions that the Chinese once tolerated have become a thing of the past. Wages are rising quickly in China. The country cannot compete on low prices anymore. It now competes with an eco-system of efficient, skilled workers and automated factories.

The inhumane conditions that the rich West banned years ago are also disappearing in China. This new wealth has created opportunities for smaller, poorer countries to compete. Just as China was once the world’s low cost provider of everything, China now has other countries such as Bangladesh which are undercutting prices and putting their citizens at risk in unsafe working conditions.

Our factories in China are certified by international institutions for worker’s rights, safety and well being. We also visit our farmers and factories several times a year to see conditions for ourselves.

We are committed to high standards in everything that we do at Hemp Tailor. Our dedication to making hemp clothes that are well made and fashionable has us working with strong partners and ever improving conditions in China today. We’ll see what the future holds.

Seems like you're in . Would you like to go to ? Yes, please! or No thanks!
